Investing in Venture Capital for Women

Venture capital is a powerful tool for bringing new technology to market and supports novel solutions to important problems. But information about how to get started in venture capital is hard to find or inaccessible, whether as an investor or an entrepreneur. By some estimates 40% of VC investors are alumni of Harvard or Stanford, and only 2% of venture capital was invested in female-founded companies in 2021.

Investing in Venture Capital for Women is a free, introductory course Zoom that is designed to help women gain the confidence to invest in a venture capital fund. Topics include; how VC funds work, the standard structure, who qualifies to invest, how invests get returns, how capital works, annual fees, what is an investment thesis, due diligence, closing document to read and sign, and required annual reporting for taxes.

The class is taught by Hillary Talbot, Managing Partner at être Venture Capital, and was developed with her partner, Jenny Kuan, PhD, a professor of economics and entrepreneurship at the College of Business at California State University Monterey Bay.

The class is held the third Wednesday of the month.

Each session is 1 hour  over lunch (12pm – 1pm PST) on Zoom. Students may bring a lunch. Sign up using the form.
